Tipton County Starts Budget Process; Looks for Funds for Ambulance Service

With a decreased balance in the county’s Rainy Day Fund, the Tipton County Council is looking for a new funding source in 2013 to pay for ambulance service in the county.
The county council is conducting departmental budget reviews with the actual budget work set for Oct. 10 and 11 with final adoption set for Oct. 16.
The advertised budget for Tipton County in all funds is $11,695,069 with $5.5 million in the general fund, $762,000 in Economic Development Income Tax revenues and $1.2 million in County Adjusted Income Tax revenues.
Earlier this month, council members were informed that the Rainy Day Fund had a balance of $467,895 with a remaining payment of $123,000 by the end of the year for the contracted ambulance service.
During Tuesday’s budget workshop the council learned that the Tipton County Commissioners included $232,000 in the general fund to pay for the ambulance service.
“We’ve been paying the ambulance fee out of Rainy Day the past two years,” Commissioner Phil Heron said. “We need to remove it from the Rainy Day fund.”
