Daily Journal Reports Johnson County Tax Hike Expected to Fund Call Center

From the Johnson County Daily Journal:

The county wants to collect more in property taxes next year to cover the costs of a new countywide emergency dispatch center.

All residents in the county, including those in Whiteland, Franklin and Bargersville, pay the county tax rate that is expected to increase next year to cover the operating costs of a combined emergency dispatch center, such as the salaries of dispatchers, and to repay money borrowed for a new building for the center. All counties are required by the state to have one dispatch center by the beginning of 2015.

The county’s tax rate is estimated to go up about 8 percent next year for the operating costs of the new countywide dispatch center, which opens next year. But how much more residents will pay depends on several factors
