Property owners in Howard County paid more than 50 percent of the property taxes owed for all of 2012 during the May 10 collection period.
Treasurer Martha Lake said Thursday that collections in all but one taxing district surpassed the 50 percent mark. She said Clay Township-Kokomo collected 49 percent of the taxes owed.
Lake said several townships collected more than the 50 percent mark, with several approaching 55 percent.
The county collected $50.5 million in property taxes and $4.8 million in excise taxes, she said.
In May 2011, the county collected $49.3 million in property taxes and $4.5 million in excise taxes.

Lake said Delphi Electronics & Safety, General Motors Holding Corp. and Chrysler Group LLC are all paying the current taxes that are owed and making the prior year tax payments as spelled out in settlement agreements with the county.
Chrysler is paying Howard County $3.2 million through 2015 on taxes owed as it emerged from bankruptcy. Lake said the company makes $1.6 million payments twice a year.
She said GM and Delphi both made payments on Oct. 6.
GM pays $312,944 and Delphi $106,748 each year. Those payments also will continue through 2015.
