From the Johnson County Daily Journal:
Local residents will continue to pay a fee to help fund local road construction projects when they register their vehicles.
Members of the Johnson County Council gave final approval to renewing the wheel tax for another five years. The fee is charged to residents when they renew their vehicle registration or register their vehicle for the first time. The amount generally is $25 for cars and sport utility vehicles and $40 for larger trucks.
But the council previously approved reducing the fee to $15 for motorcycles and lightweight trailers.
The fee brings in about $3.5 million to fund road paving and construction projects in the county, cities and towns.
...
Council members approved the tax 5-1 and will review it again in five years or if another source of road funding becomes available. Council member Brian Walker did not attend the meeting.
