The next YouTube sensation may thank Sweetwater Sound.

The company is seeing strong revenue growth from customers purchasing in-home recording equipment. Aspiring artists no longer have to fork over money for expensive studio time because they can do it themselves, owner Chuck Surack said.

“Technology has brought the cost down so that people with moderate incomes are able to purchase the equipment,” said Surack, whose company on Friday announced a nearly $24 million expansion and plans to add 315 jobs.

Sweetwater, a retail dealer of instruments and equipment, plans to grow its operations with an 110,000-square-foot expansion. The jobs will be added over the next four years. The positions are in sales, marketing, administration and shipping. The median salary is $65,000 a year.
