Lake County Council Sets Aside $10.6 Million for E911 Consolidation

From the Northwest Indiana Times:

The Lake County Council is setting aside a $10.6 million budget for E-911 consolidations next year, Larry Blanchard, a county consultant, said this week.
Blanchard said the council reduced its spending goals for E-911 earlier this week by $10.6 million in a separate fund, but still intends to spend that same amount from its general fund, if county and municipal leaders sign an interlocal agreement next year to consolidate 18 police and fire emergency dispatch operations into a unified call center.

The council is expected to cast an initial vote Monday on all 2013 county budgets under their control, but still have to resolve a looming deficit of around $20 million being driven by lower tax collections and demands for higher spending primarily in the sheriff's jail budget and county government's employee health insurance plan.
A final budget vote isn't planned until Oct. 9.
