Public Hearing Scheduled on Lafayette School Corp Budget

From the Lafayette Journal & Courier:

Chief Financial Officer Eric Rody walked board members through the particulars of the district’s proposed budget for 2013.

The total budget is advertised at $72,792,830. For comparison, the district’s 2012 budget was advertised at $73,372,299.

Rody said a tax rate won’t be available until the district receives notice of its assessed value later this year. The Capital Project Fund, he said, has been advertised as a slight increase.

“We really don’t have much that has changed at all,” Rody said. “Debt is the same debt that’s been scheduled for a number of years. The same types of things are in the Capital Projects Fund ... transportation, bus replacement, they’re all pretty much the same.”

The budgets are advertised high, meaning that the final budget will likely be lower than, but will not exceed, the advertised amount.

A public hearing on the budget will take place at 7 p.m. Sept. 10 at the Hiatt Center. The board will vote on the budget during its Oct. 8 meeting.
