La Porte Mails Reconciled Property Tax Bills for 2008 and 2009

From the La Porte Herald-Angus:

Residents can expect another tax bill in the mail this week.

This time, the bill will be a double reconciled bill for 2008 pay 2009 and 2009 pay 2010.

The bills were calculated separately for each year and the total for each were added together and subtracted from the provisionals. La Porte County Treasurer Nancy Hawkins said the bills will vary even with some of the bills not having any fee.

"I'm seeing small bills and large bills. Some will owe $88 and others will owe a couple thousand," she said, adding that so far the county has been a little bit ahead of schedule.
The double bill will be delivered to the post office today and residents will start receiving them on Wednesday or Thursday. The bills are due Sept. 14.

Payments may be made by cash, check and credit card in person at any of the local Horizon Banks.

Right now, officials are working on building a website so residents may make payments online and a telephone number to call for credit card payments.

"If people can hold off on payment by credit card for the next week or week in a half, we will have the website and number available," said Hawkins.

The link to the website and the phone number will be visible on the La Porte County website on the Treasurer's page at http://www.laportecounty.org/departments/treasurer/index.html.

The next reconciled bill — 2010 pay 2011 — will be sent out no later than January 31.
