From the Kokomo Tribune:
With concerns about paying for the ambulance service in 2013, the Tipton County Council rejected a request from the commissioners for funding from the Rainy Day Fund.
The commissioners Tuesday renewed a request for $66,500 for professional services from the Rainy Day Fund to pay for an Americans with Disability Act study and for assistance in balancing the books in the auditor’s office.
Council members were divided on how to fund the request and decided not to provide any funding, requiring the payments be made from the county’s Economic Development Income Tax revenues.
Councilwoman Suzanne Alexander said the Rainy Day Fund had a balance of $468,895, with a $123,000 payment for the ambulance service due by the end of the year.
Requests from the Rainy Day Fund amount to $200,000.
“We need to find an alternative source to pay for the ambulance service in 2013,” she said.
Council President Scott Friend said in his eight years on the council, the Rainy Day has not been at that level.
“There are three or four major proposals from the commissioners,” Friend said. “We’re approaching the breaking point.”
Alexander said the council should look at moving the ambulance service cost to the general fund budget in 2013.
