Delaware County Taxpayers Can Sign up for Electronic Property Tax Billing

From the Muncie Star-Press:

Property owners, who now receive annual bills in the mail for spring and fall property tax deadlines, may go to www.sri-taxpayerconnection.com to sign up for tax bills via email. Taxpayers can also sign up in the county auditor and county treasurer offices on the first floor of the Delaware County Building.

Officials emphasize the program is voluntary and expect that the transition from print to email delivery of tax bills could be a very slow process considering more than 60,000 tax bills are routinely mailed.

“This is something that I strongly believe in,” County Treasurer John Dorer said this week. “It will benefit the county, cost-wise, and will help our office to function more efficiently.”

Dorer has said the program could have the greatest impact on taxpayers with dozens of parcels. Each of those pieces of property gets a separate tax bill.

The start of the sign-up follows last week’s approval of the program by the Delaware County commissioners.

SRI Inc., which conducts the county’s tax sales, will charge 40 cents per each emailed notice compared to the county’s current cost of about 60 cents. Email delivery could reduce the cost of paper, postage and processing, officials said.

The county’s next tax sale of delinquent properties is set for Sept. 12 at the Delaware County Fairgrounds.
