The East Allen County Schools board on Tuesday approved its operating budget for 2013 during its regularly scheduled meeting.
According to Tamyra Kelly, the district’s public information officer, the board approved the budget with little discussion. EACS’ budget is a bit more than $79.8 million, with a general fund expenditure slated for around $55.4 million.
The general fund is where salaries and benefits are paid for district employees.
The budget is down from the $88.5 million allotted for this school year. As previously reported the capital projects fund, which pays for maintenance and upkeep of the district’s buildings, saw the largest decrease. That property tax supported fund lost about $3.5 million due to declining assessed values and property tax caps for homes and businesses in the district.
