To avoid penalty, payments must be in the treasurer's office or postmarked by that date, Orth said in a statement.

- Mail: The address is Allen County Treasurer, P.O. Box 2540, Fort Wayne, IN 46801-2540.
- Online: The treasurer's website, www.allencountytreasurer.us, has information about paying by credit card, electronic payment or a spring/fall payment option. A copy of your bill can be printed from the site.
- Banks: Banks listed on the back of the tax bill will accept tax payments, the statement said. You must have your tax statement when paying at a bank.
- In person: The treasurer's office is in Rousseau Centre, formerly the City-County Building, 1 E. Main St., Suite 104. You must have the entire statement when paying in person. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays; the deposit slot in the front of the office is available from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Taxpayers also may deposit their tax payment in the night depository for the Clerk of the Court and the treasurer, located on Main Street in front of the courthouse, or in night depositories at any Star Financial Bank location.

Property tax payments can be made at the County Services Building, 219 Lincoln Way W., Mishawaka, and at the treasurer's office in the County-City Building, 227 W. Jefferson Blvd., South Bend, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday next week and on Nov. 5, 7, 9 and 13.
Both locations will be closed for Election Day Nov. 6 and for Veterans Day Nov. 12.
Taxpayers are urged to submit payments by mail to ensure efficient processing. Payments postmarked on or before the due date will be considered on time. Mailing instructions are on the back of the bill.
Failure to receive a property tax bill does not relieve the taxpayer of the responsibility to pay taxes and penalties when due.
