Cost to Pay Property Taxes Reduced in Vanderburgh County

From the Evansville Courier & Press:

Taxpayers who pay their taxes online should see a decrease in service fees, thanks to a new agreement approved by County Commissioners Tuesday night.
In the past, those who used a Visa debit card to pay their tax bills were assessed a paid 2.75 percent service fee, or $27.50 per $1,000. Now, they will be charged only a $3.95 flat fee.
...
That $3.95 flat fee applies only to Visa debit cards. For Visa credit cards and cards of any type issued by other major companies, the 2.75 percent convenience fee drops to 2.6 percent.
For those paying with electronic check, the fee dips to $1.95 per transaction from $3.
...
Davis — who told Commissioners that the office accepted only Discover cards when he came in 2009 — said electronic transactions are on the rise.
Between fiscal year 2010 (which ended Jun. 30 that year) and fiscal year 2012, transactions jumped to 2,789 from 1,711, a 63 percent increase.
The treasurer's office saw $1.2 million worth of transactions in fiscal year 2010. That number more than doubled to $2.67 million in fiscal year 2012.
