From the Kokomo Tribune:
The proposed tax levy for the operation of Kokomo city government in 2014 is an increase of less than 1 percent, or $285,304.
The Kokomo Common Council will begin its review of the budget presented by Mayor Greg Goodnight today at 6 p.m. at the Administration Building for the Kokomo School Corp. on Washington Street. The council will continue its review on Thursday and Sept. 10, both at 6 p.m.
Goodnight said Friday the property tax levy is increasing by $285,304 above the 2013 figure. The maximum tax levy for Kokomo this year is $36.6 million according to the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance.
Goodnight said the proposal includes reductions in some budget areas to make up for increased costs for retirement and health care for city employees.
