Fort Wayne Plans to Use Unexpected Tax Revenue for Improvements

From the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette:

The bulk of the city’s new tax revenue will be used to fix streets and remove dead trees.

Mayor Tom Henry on Wednesday announced his plan to spend $5 million of the $8.5 million in unexpected income tax revenues on improving city neighborhoods.

“The Restoration Funding Program takes the funds withheld in error by the state, now rightfully returned, and puts them to work where they’re needed most, right in our neighborhoods,” he said.

Under the mayor’s plan, the city would use $3.5 million for transportation projects and $1.5 million to help address the city’s ash tree problem. The proposal would have to go before the City Council for approval, which Henry said should happen soon so the work can be done this year.
