From the Richmond Palladium-Item:
Wayne County officials will sell 183 pieces of property at public auction when they hold their annual real estate delinquent tax sale Tuesday at the County Administration Building.
Officials published a list of 286 tax delinquent properties in August, but property owners have paid the taxes owed on more than 100 of those properties.
County Auditor Karen Stevens, who coordinates the auction, said the properties run the gamut of size and structure.
“These properties could be anything from a small piece of land to large commercial buildings,” Stevens said. “This is not a money-maker for the county. The money we receive goes to pay the back taxes owed.”
...
The public auction begins at 10 a.m., but anyone wishing to bid must be there between 9 and 9:30 a.m. to register. Those who buy a property must pay the county for it in certified funds by 2 p.m. that day.
“Properties not sold in the sale will eventually go to a commissioners sale,” Stevens said. “They cannot be sold outright by the county in the days following the sale. We do have a lot of people who ask about buying them right after the sale.”
