From the Elkhart Truth:
The Elkhart County Redevelopment Commission met today, April 19, for an hour and a half to discuss budgets and timelines for next week’s meeting with the Elkhart County Council to discuss plans for redevelopment in the area.
Three Tax Incremental Financing districts in Elkhart County were on the table — the Middlebury Agricultural TIF, the Northeast TIF and the Northwest Gateway TIF districts.
“One victory was, Beck Drive in the Northeast was approved,” said Chris Godlewski, county plan director.
Beck Drive, which intersects with C.R. 17, is in need of curb, drain and signage renewal, said Tom Byers, Elkhart County administrator.
The Northeast and the Northwest Gateway TIF districts have had success in meetings, with Northeast getting approval for the Beck Drive portion of the plan, which means the RDC now has $271,000 in funding approved, and the Northwest Gateway TIF district having $20,000 of funds approved.
“The Northeast TIF, the only thing that wasn’t approved was the request for $50,000,” Godlewski said.

The Middlebury Agricultural TIF, which was planned to protect agricultural land from development, has had a setback.
The plan has been tabled because of a budget balance discrepancy. “We didn’t know the costs before we made the request,” Godlewski said.
