St. Joseph County Issues Property Tax Bills

From the South Bend Tribune:

The St. Joseph County Treasurer's Office on Friday started mailing 2011-pay-2012 property tax bills, according to a press release.

There will be two installment payment deadlines this year. The first installment is due May 10, and the second is due Nov. 13.

Taxpayers are encouraged to pay through the mail. Instructions are included on the bill.

Spring installment payments in full must be postmarked on or before May 10 to avoid a penalty. For a receipt, please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

Taxpayers may sign up for 2013 property tax electronic billing at www.sri-taxpayerconnection.com.

Payments can also be made at the treasurer's office on the second floor of the County-City Building, 227 W. Jefferson Blvd., during regular business hours, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

During the week of April 30 and on May 7, 9 and 10, payments can also be made at the County Services Building, 219 Lincoln Way W., Mishawaka, during regular business hours.

Both locations will be closed May 8 for primary elections.

Credit card payment is available online via a link on the treasurer's website (www.stjosephcountyindiana.com/treasurer) or by calling 800-809-5849. A vendor service fee of 2.95 percent applies.

A pink homestead verification form is being sent to taxpayers who currently receive a homestead deduction but who have not previously submitted a verification form. The form must be filled out and mailed to the county auditor. Instructions are included on the back of the form.

Homestead verification forms should not be included with property tax payments.

The county assessor's office has sent out a 2012 Notice of Assessment to any property that changed in assessed value since last year. The property tax bill only serves as the notice of assessment for property tax parcels that did not change in value since last year. Contact the assessor's office at 574-235-9523 for more information.

Failure to receive a tax bill does not relieve the taxpayer of the responsibility for payment and penalties when due.

For tax bill information, visit the treasurer's office at the above listed website.
