From the La Porte Herald-Angus:
MonoSol is planning a more than $34 million expansion in La Porte and the city government is trying to help it grow its operations.
During last night's city council meeting, members voted unanimously to grant MonoSol a tax abatement recognizing the more than $34 million it expects to expend on new manufacturing equipment over the next 10 years.
The abatement will save MonoSol a small percentage of those costs.
According to MonoSol Vice President of Human Resources Rob McGreal, the company expects to create 37 jobs with the expansion (most of which will be union jobs with some supervisory and maintenance positions) for an estimated increase of $1.8 million in salaries.
It also plans to build a third building (at 50,000 square feet) in the Thomas Rose Industrial Park with an estimated real property improvement cost of $5 million. This amount is also part of the abatement.
