Indy Politics Reports DLGF's Public Hearing on Marion County Budget

The budget fight between Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard and City-County Council Democrats ended up at the Statehouse today.


By law city county budgets must be approved by DLGF in order to go into effect and today was the public hearing on the budget.

In October, Mayor Greg Ballard vetoed the transfer of nearly $30 million from the general fund to the county offices, saying it would break the budget.  Democrats failed to override the veto.

The two sides went before the Department of Local Government and Finance; the Mayor’s office asking the agency to approve the budget as is, Council Democrats say the budget is illegal because the Mayor is impounding funds from County offices and he did not have the authority to do so.
