Reporter Reports Hearing to be Set on Proposed Tax Increase for Boone County

From the Lebanon Reporter:

More than 250 people have signed a petition objecting to a plan to raise Boone County’s cumulative capital development tax.

Those objections mean the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance will have a public hearing on the county’s intent to raise the CCD tax to 3.3 cents per $100 of assessed valuation.

No date for that hearing has been set.

The Boone County Commissioners on Monday approved a resolution endorsing the increase.

“This resolution says the actual rate is going to be approved by the county council and ratified by the DLGF,” said County Attorney Bob Clutter.

At its July 9 meeting, the Boone County Council, by a 4-3 vote, approved increasing the CCD rate, bumping it from the present 1.27 cents per $100 of assessed valuation. The council could decide to enact a smaller increase, but needed to set a cap on the increase.

A petition opposing the increase, signed by 261 people, was filed Friday, Aug. 16, with the Boone County Auditor, said Aaron Smith, Lebanon. Only 50 signatures were required to trigger the DLGF hearing.
