Star Reports 20 Counties with the Highest Taxes Per Resident

From the Indianapolis Star:

The Indianapolis Star broke down the combined totals from those two types of taxes by population, ranking Indiana's top 20 counties by local taxes per resident. Not surprisingly, Indianapolis/Marion County makes the list but it's not ranked as high as you might think. Several metro-area counties also rank in the top 20. So do a few sparsely populated places.

On the other end of the scale, with the lowest combined taxes per resident, is Ohio County at $611.29 more than $1,000 less than in the highest-taxed county.

The analysis used 2012 data for each county's total property tax levyand state distribution of all local income taxes, as well as 2012 U.S. Census Bureau population estimates. Property and income taxes are local government's primary sources of tax revenue; the analysis didn't include smaller sources, such as sales taxes and state-set taxes. LaPorte County was excluded because its 2012 tax levy was not available.
