Tax-collecting units in Monroe County, including Bloomington, Ellettsville, Stinesville, townships, the county government, the public library, Bloomington Transit and Perry-Clear Creek Fire Protection found out Thursday their share of revenues from county income tax that will be distributed in 2013.
The bottom line for the county is $24,115,928.
One year ago, the state distributed $20,330,213 in income taxes collected by the county, but in April, found out that the state had miscalculated local income tax distributions across the state, and gave the county an additional $4,088,788. Of that, $2,821,726 was for underpayment of county income taxes in 2011.
The announcement of higher income tax collections this year “means people in Monroe County are working and employed, and the recovery is working for many of our residents. I consider that very good news,” said Monroe County Council President Geoff McKim.
Monroe County government gets the biggest share of the total: $9,663,002, and the city of Bloomington will receive $9,440,104, according to the announcement from the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance.
