Work will begin this morning on Howard County’s 2013 budget, with the process expected to take two days.
Departmental funding requests from the county’s general fund is lower than the amount approved by the Howard County Council this year.
The departments are requesting $18.4 million in spending next year. The general fund budget was approved at $18.6 million for this year.
Council members will meet for budget hearings at 8 a.m. today and Thursday in Room 338 of the Howard County Administration Center.

With the city annexing property for the 2013 tax year and state-mandated property tax caps, Howard County is expected to see a $900,000 reduction in available revenues.
