The first look at a proposed 2013 budget was offered to the Jeffersonville City Council Finance Committee on Friday.
Mayor Mike Moore submitted a proposed budget for 2013 that totals $47.2 million, which is $200,000 less than this year’s proposed and approved budget, according to a news release.

Jeffersonville City Controller Monica Harmon said the 2012 budget was certified by the Department of Local Government Finance without any cuts. However, due to the circuit breaker tax caps the city council was forced to cut $2.5 million during 2012. The caps reduced the amount of property tax revenue the city collected down to $19.3 million, compared to $22.8 million in 2011.
If cuts are required again this year, Zastawny said the first place to look would be to the largest budgets in the city, which are the fire, police and sanitation departments.

The budget must be submitted to the state for review by Nov. 1.
