Sugar Creek Packing Offered Incentives for Investment in Cambridge City

Sugar Creek Packing Co. is moving forward with plans to purchase the former Really Cool Foods facility in the Indiana Gateway Industrial Park near Cambridge City.

Sugar Creek plans to create 400 jobs and install five cooking lines at the facility by 2016. The company expects to have two lines installed and staffed by the fourth quarter of 2013 and to add and staff another cooking line each year through 2016.

The EDC board will consider a proposed incentive agreement for the company at its meeting at 4 p.m. today.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. offered Sugar Creek Packing Co. up to $2.8 million in conditional tax credits, according to a press release, and up to $175,000 in training grants based on the company's job creation plans.

Sugar Creek announced its $13 million bid for the facility in August. The company plans $28.5 million in improvements, including a 70,000-square-foot expansion, upgrades to the existing facility and the purchase of equipment.
