Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard says a tax increase is the last thing he wants in order to close a $55 million budget gap.
A weekend story in the Indianapolis Business Journal suggested city policymakers are open to the idea of raising taxes as a way to close the budget hole.
However, speaking to Indy Politics shortly after a mass transit hearing, Ballard said a tax increase would be unfair to the taxpayers when there are still millions of dollars worth of efficiencies to be found.
The Mayor also discussed whether he would invoke the authority granted to him in SB 621 which allows his office to withhold funds from County offices if the revenue is not their to fund their operations.
