Vanderburgh County Approves Abatement to Lure PGP International to Evansville

From the Evansville Courier:

Vanderburgh County Council members have approved two 10-year tax abatements for a new food-production business that could potentially come to Vanderburgh County.

If PGP International, Inc., moves into a Vanderburgh Industrial Park facility — Growth Alliance for Greater Evansville Director Debbie Dewey said — it will be allowed to pay less than 100 percent of its property taxes for the first 10 years on an anticipated $15 million worth of equipment.

Property taxes Delta Properties, LLC, will have to pay on the $8.2 million, 70,000-square-feet building it plans to construct and lease to PGP International will also be phased in over 10 years.

The two phase-in resolutions passed unanimously at the Council's Thursday meeting.

PGP International is one of 21 companies owned by Associated British Foods. Dewey said the business is estimated to bring 41 new jobs over five years at an average of $24 an hour and produce a $287 million economic impact over 10 years.

Despite Thursday's tax abatement resolutions and a $20,000 employee training grant approved June 19 by County Commissioners, the company's locating in Evansville is not final.

"They did not say they're coming to Evansville," Dewey said, "so what we're trying to do is approve an incentive package that will entice them to make this their home going forward."
