From the Elkhart Truth:
A plastics extrusion company that works closely with the recreational vehicle industry has accepted a property tax incentive that will help the business expand and add 30 employees.
The Elkhart County Council approved a six-year property tax phase-in Saturday, Aug. 10, for Lifetime Industries Inc., a company doing business as Boyd Corp. The company plans to add 39,300 square feet to its 79,000-square-foot plant built in 2006 at 53208 Columbia Drive in Elkhart. The real estate investment is estimated at $1.6 million.
Tom Hayward, general manager at the plant, told the county council in July that the company has been growing rapidly. Boyd Corp. is part of a conglomerate with a manufacturing facility in Elkhart that caters to the RV industry. Hayward told the council that the expansion would allow the company to begin working with other industries, including aerospace, automotive, medical and electronics.
Boyd Corp. has committed to adding $1.76 million in new machinery and $20,000 in new information technology equipment. The company employs about 80 people and plans to hire 30 more with annual salaries totaling $947,000.
Reschcor Inc., another Elkhart County plastics extrusion company, had also applied for a property tax phase-in last month but withdrew its application Saturday.
