From the Elkhart Truth:
A traffic equipment manufacturing company based in Oregon plans to open a new facility north of the Elkhart Municipal Airport, creating 11 new jobs by 2015.
Scientific Developments Inc. (SDI), headquartered in Eugene, Ore., makes traffic safety products from post-consumer recycled tires. The company plans to purchase a 50,000-square-foot facility at 1655 Gateway Court and install hydraulic presses, according to a press release from the Indiana Economic Development Corp. The company plans to be operational in early 2013.
SDI, a family-owned company founded in 1973, will invest $1.55 million in its Elkhart location and begin hiring maintenance and press operators early next year. The IEDC offered SDI up to $45,000 in conditional tax credits based on the company’s job creation plans. The company will not be eligible to claim the incentives until employees are hired.
The city of Elkhart has given preliminary approval to a 3-year personal property tax abatement.
SDI employs 18 people in Eugene and performs complete recycling processes including shredding and molding. The company recycles about 6 million pounds of rubber annually.
